Eriogonum parvifolium (1 qt) | Sea Cliff Buckwheat (1 qt)

Evergreen perennial. 2 ft x 2 ft. Sun to part sun.

CA native. Sea cliff Buckwheat is a dark green mounding plant, growing up to 3 feet high and wide, with small evergreen leaves that sometimes have a reddish tint. Flowers are pale pink and white which can change over the long blooming season to a rusty brown. This is a wonderful native plant that is an important food source for many native butterflies and moths. Do not deadhead because the spent flowers provide extra shade for the plant in hot weather as well as seeds for birds. Best to prune back in early spring before it has begun to bud.

Also called dune or coast buckwheat, it can handle full sun on the coast but prefers some afternoon shade in hot inland areas. Drought tolerant once established sometimes needing water only once a month. Great ground cover and erosion control on slopes. Can work well as a lawn replacement or in rock gardens or containers.
