Glossy, slightly ruffled purple leaves tinged with copper, topped with purple flowers. It is a mild flavored basil, excellent as a salad green. Leaves are large, up to 3 inches long. If you use Red Rubin for pesto, be sure to add the basil to the food processor last, since if you blend it too long it will change from a pretty purple to not-so-tasty gray.Plants are 2 ft tall. They grow well in full sun, however in very hot areas a little afternoon shade will maintain the dark leaf color.
